This work was one of my most successful projects, both in terms of the media response and the experience. It was done at the National Geographic visitor’s center at the Grand Canyon. It was sponsored by Nature Valley Trails, which has a really great website: http://www.naturevalleytrailview.com/ .On this site you can take virtual tours of some of the most impressive natural parks. Nature Valley, the National Geographic, and Imax are all repeat customers for me, so the job was really fun.
I also got to spend some time at the Grand Canyon, including a helicopter ride over it, which was definitely a bucket-list experience. The south rim of the park is still really special because of the fantastic El Tovar Hotel built in the golden age of the parks. Dinner on the terrace at sunset is the best. The work was reproduced on a durable vinyl material to withstand heavy foot traffic and the elements. It is now being reprinted after about six moths of use to “freshen it up”. This great technology allows for works to be on display indefinitely. This is quite a change from the old days when they were “gone with the wind” and rain.
